Conditions of Being a Mortal

Conditions of Being a Mortal is based on Ferenc Liszt’s story-telling symphony Faust. The dancers perform an abundance of different dance techniques and characters during the acts of the drama. In the drift of the emotional music, the narrative movements of the performers are transformed into a collective mass, both their body and voice are operating at the highest capacity. Their fragmented movements seem to appear in an endless cycle under the dominance of the music. Yet the narrative of over the top physicality may still need to be deciphered. Through the dancers, we observe patterns of behaviour that may unexpectedly touch us personally.

Conditions of Being a Mortal has been selected by the international contemporary dance network Aerowaves as one of the 20 best contemporary dance performances of the year.
