In Harmonia, Unusual Symptoms and Hungarian choreographer Adrienn Hód invite us to explore anew the human body and its meaning in dance and society. Between shared explorations of physical diversity, fun-filled exuberance and a good dose of self-irony, an ensemble of dancers with and without disabilities questions hierarchies of classical dance, but also the supposedly progressive forms of contemporary dance. Asking for the undisturbed attention of the audience, they throw conventional notions of the body and the structures built around it overboard and set about playfully realigning our gaze.
With their first collaboration Coexist, created in 2019, Unusual Symptoms – the dance company-in-residence at Theater Bremen – and Adrienn Hód were invited to Tanzplattform Deutschland 2020. Harmonia is their second collaboration.
Unusual Symptoms have been company-in-residence at Theater Bremen since 2012. Originally founded by the French-Algerian choreographer Samir Akika, the company and dance division of Theater Bremen have been co-directed by Alexandra Morales and Gregor Runge since 2018. International coproductions and work with changing guest choreographers and in interdisciplinary constellations characterize their new orientation, with which they have repositioned Theater Bremen’s dance department at the interface between independent scene and municipal theatre. Since then, Unusual Symptoms have worked with internationally renowned choreo graphers such as Faye Driscoll, Máté Mészáros, Núria Guiu Sagarra and Adrienn Hód/HODWORKS. Furthermore they have developed projects with young performers, exchange formats and festivals. In 2020, Unusual Symptoms and Theater Bremen were invited to Tanzplattform Deutschland with two productions.
