”Beyond Bare Life: Neglected by Institutionalised Care” – lecture series and film screenings, the first part of which closed with the performance ”Testállítás” at ISBN+ Gallery. The concept was created by Eszter Lázár and Edina Nagy.

Beyond Bare Life is a long-term research, education and contemporary art project starting in October 2024. Its central themes are the health care policies of repressive regimes and specific interpretations of the concept of the welfare state, which will be explored in a historical context through case studies and artistic positions, with the involvement of international participants.

We explore the ambivalence of institutionalised care on the everyday body. The performance pieces are situated on the borderline between self-determination, vulnerability and intrusive care. How can the idea of the aestheticised body survive in the shadow of illness? The interplay of textures, qualities and boundaries between the image of the sick and the healthy body are the starting point for a movement exploration.
